Uncensored Mexican American Students at Tucson Book Festival 2012

.

Maria Teresa Mejia describes how Tucson public schools now forbids students to discuss their culture, or the Chicano and Native American books seized from their classrooms. This interview followed award winning author Luis Alberto Urrea speaking at the Tucson Festival of Books 2012. Urrea, featured at the festival, is among the authors whose books are banned now by Tucson public schools for use in the classroom. There were over 50 Chicano and Native American authors on the reading list for Mexican American Studies, including Sherman Alexie, Ofelia Zepeda and dozens of Native authors in Rethinking Columbus.
